Google to unveil Pixel 8, Pixel Watch 2, and more on October 4th

Google has officially announced its fall hardware event for October 4th, 2023, where the company is expected to unveil its latest Pixel phones and Nest smart home devices. The event will be live-streamed from New York City on YouTube.

The main spotlight of the show will likely be on the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro, successors to last year’s Pixel 7 series. The new Pixel phones are rumored to feature upgraded chipsets, improved cameras, larger batteries, and smoother displays compared to their predecessors. The Pixel 8 Pro may also support wireless and reverse wireless charging.

Both phones will showcase Google’s advancements in on-device artificial intelligence to enhance photo and video quality. New speech recognition and language processing capabilities are also expected to boost Google Assistant’s functionality on the devices.

Alongside the new phones, Google may also reveal the Pixel Watch 2 – the next generation of its smartwatch that debuted earlier this year. The Pixel Watch 2 could sport a slimmer design and longer battery life, along with deeper integration with Google’s apps and services like Google Fit, Google Pay, and Google Assistant.

The Pixel Watch 2 is likely to run on an updated version of Google’s Wear OS software platform, optimized for the new hardware. This would allow quicker access to information and smarter predictive capabilities to rival the Apple Watch.

On the home automation front, Google may unveil a refreshed Nest Wifi Pro router to replace its existing Nest Wifi model from 2019. The new Nest Wifi Pro could deliver faster Wi-Fi 6E speeds, better coverage for large homes, and act as a central hub for controlling other Nest smart home devices.

Google may also showcase new capabilities for existing Nest products like cameras, video doorbells, thermostats, smoke detectors, and smart displays. Enhanced integration between the Nest and Pixel lineups could be a key focus.

While the company has shared minimal details so far, a teaser image showing a blue sky hints that the new products may come in fresh color options.

With Google’s hardware portfolio maturing over the years, this fall event will demonstrate the company’s vision for its Pixel and Nest ecosystems. The event starts at 10AM ET on October 4th, and will be livestreamed on Google’s YouTube channel for audiences worldwide.
