Over five months the final version of the Windows 10 May Update was tested in the Insider program. Nevertheless, there are increasing signs that it is a real stumbling block, with new reports of non-updatable devices and incompatibilities occurring almost daily.
Although no known problems have been documented in the Insider program recently, Microsoft surprised with a long list of update blockades, which were released in time for the release. Many devices cannot yet be updated to version 2004, including all current Surface models.
As it seems, this list is not even complete. For devices with Intel Optane Memory, there seems to be an update blockade as well. If you still update, for example via the Media Creation Tool, you have to expect problems.
For most users the following error message appears regularly:
“Unable to load DLL ‘iaStorAfsServiceApi.dll’: The specified module could not be found. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x8), ”
Intel has published instructions on its support pages on how to fix the problem, which I can’t describe here due to the lack of a corresponding device. If there is someone among our readers who are affected by the problem, please feel free to try it out and report it.
